Robins Nest Closed
Up early and Baby seemed happier in his surroundings, that was until we took him for a swim. After drying off we headed out to our chosen destination of Robin hill Country Park. We are having a family contest where the first to see a red squirrel will win a prize, so excitement was high for this trip.
So there was a drop in the holiday mood when we arrived and it was closed due to the Bestival clean up still and not due to open until tomorrow. We looked at all the tourist crap we had gathered and eventually came up with the plan B of Godshill (a place that I had previousley vowed fifteen years ago never to return to after being so dull) and Ventnor.
Thankfully Godshill was not as bad as I remembered but still did seem to cater for the older army. The little ones loved the model village which was the best I have ever seen (I have now seen at least 3). Toddler liked the dinosaur and tiger trains whilst Baby loved squatting to all the doors of the minature houses and banging on them saying "ock oor". After this we headed for the church where Baby managed to fall whilst playing with chairs resulting in a very bloody mouth. Thankfully he recovered quickly out in the wind which was now howling at us full pelt.
We then trooped back to the car encountering both a feather incident and an chicken in the road. On the way to Ventnor we came across the Donkey Santuary and so popped in for a look and to buy the greatest T-shirts ever. Baby liked the donkeys, Toddler didn't but said the white ones were her favorite. I like dthe donkeys but didn't like having Ribena squeezed all over me by Baby.
When we got to Ventnor Baby was zonked again so just the three of us looked on the the spectatular sea view. It was quite odd for us to look out and not see anything on the horizon. We are so used to seeing the Isle of Wight from Portsmouth.
It was getting late so headed for our temporary home. Thankfully Toddler fell asleep as we managed to get lost again before finding a supermarket. The long car sleeps came back to haunt us at bedtime so we ended up letting Toddler have a holiday treat of watching the National Lottery Quiz Show with us on the telly box (It was the most child friendly thing on, Hugh Fernley Whittingstall was killing bunnies on the other side). She suggested that adult telly is not as good kids telly, I think she is probably right.
After some more made up stories of Robin the squirrel Toddler finally slept and so did we.
