Japanese Adventure

Looks like we lost

Today was the local junior schools sports day. Held on a Sunday as the fathers would not be working. The whole school of around 1000 kids HAD to take part.

The day started at 6.30am when some fireworks were let off, no one could tell me why. I think it was either to make sure the kids were up or a starting gun for the parents to reserve a place around the track and in the shade to eat lunch.

Even though it is the end of the summer, it was very hot today and you needed some rest-bit at lunch time.

At 8.30am some more fireworks went up, and this was the start of the sports day. the events were a mix of running races, tug of war, dancing, marching band and some games unique to Japan I think. The last race was finished at 3pm. During this time all the kids had to be present and sat under awnings.

Don't know how they managed to keep going all day, as the sun was so strong and energy sapping.

If i get a chance I will add a link to some of the photos in tomorrows blip.
