Went to my Uncle's wedding today in the lovely town of Appleby - made famous by the Horse Fair held there each year. Sadly he lost my Aunty , his 1st wife, to cancer six years ago and has been pretty lost without her.
The weather was wet but it mattered not as in every other respect it was such a perfect, happy family day. A really relaxed service which being a Catholic is very alien to me as in our church everything has to be done by the book. So it was fab to be able to all join in the service and give them a big round of applause once it was 'sign and sealed'!
Back to Uncle D's cottage which overlooks the Eden Valley. Stunning place. Rained finally cleared so guests could hang out in the garden and take in the amazing views of the fells and across to the lake district. We had to leave before the celebrations continued into the night with live music, pizza, bonfire and fireworks. At 70 he still knows how to throw a great bash!
I caught him sharing a quiet moment with Rory - his only grandchild. And it struck me how wonderful things are now that he has found someone special to share his life - and is finally a grandad as well.
I'm very reflective tonight but it's so lovely it has all come good for him and I guess even when times are really tough - there can still be so much good stuff waiting for us. It made me think of this Johnny Nash song - because of today's gathering - and weather!
I can see clearly now, the rain is gone,
I can see all obstacles in my way
Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind
It?s gonna be a bright bright sun shiny day.
I think I can make it now, the pain is gone
All of the bad feelings have disappeared
Here is the rainbow I?ve been prayin for
It?s gonna be a bright bright sun shiny day.
