Magical Mystery Tour
One of the advantages of James getting older is that he goes out more! That means we get to dash out on a whim and investigate the local area.
About 20 minutes from our place is a village called "Vulcan Village" - it's just on the outskirts of Newton-Le-Willows. It was built in 1835 to house the workers of the Vulcan Foundry in Newton.
The village is a designated conservation area and it is very much like walking into a time gone by when you stand at the edge of the village. Some shots of the village here. At the edge of the village, on the gable end of one of the houses is a beautiful, and very big, stonework badge, taken from the Vulcan Foundry before it was demolished - the foundry site is soon to be built on with new, modern housing.
After taking a few shots, we then drove up the rode to Newton itself. We parked up and wandered to the chippy then sat, on a bench, by the church, eating chips and watching the world go by. Then we had a mooch around the church, which appears to have been restored and/or cleaned up and it looks magnificent. As is my usual form in churches, I went looking for the oldest headstone - the oldest I could find was from 1746.
Home, a visit from Pete and Liz, with much admiring of the car, before enchiladas and salad for tea. Now, a brew and maybe a little power nap. The boys are watching Doctor Who. I'm not, as it has got the cybermen in it and they scare the bejeezus out of me!
