News of the World
The rest of the week I don't tend to pay much attention to the papers, as I never seem to have much time to read them, but come the weekend it's a bit of a ritual to read them in the morning before I do anything else. I also catch up on some other reading from the various magazines that come through the door, this week it's the Doctor Who Magazine and the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment. A wide and varied, eclectic read I think you'll agree.
So what have I learnt from the papers this morning?
Well apparently a heat wave is on its way, but only to be followed by very cold weather. Despite the cutbacks the number of public sector employees in Wales has gone up, so that just increases the imbalance between public and private, a recipe for disaster me thinks. You've got to give it to the papers, half the stuff that's in them is complete and utter tosh and you end up thinking why did I bother.
You wonder what the future is for newspapers, especially with the instant access we have to the news these days through TV and the internet, Twitter etc. One of the local issues is to do with local news, for example the Neath Guardian closed down about a couple of years ago now, meaning there is nothing out there now for local news in the Neath area. I can't help feeling that there is a gap in the market somewhere, to give people access to local news.
