Larbert House

This is what is left of the grand entrance to Larbert House which collapsed following a fire some years ago.

I didn't even know this existed until recently. It is now part of the grounds of the new Royal Forth Valley Hospital in Larbert.

The House itself was huge - this entrance was a towering pillared feature (The Pillars can be seen in bits to the front of the image. In front of the house is a large ornamental lake and recently a brick lined tunnel was discovered which runs from the house itself down to the lake (meaning the residents could walk to the lake without having to interact with the servants - nice!).

Lots of people think of Larbert as a large dormitory settlement for nearby big cities but it has its own history such as this. Hard to believe now but there was even a large tram network running from Larbert to Falkirk back in the day. Makes you wonder why those guys in Edinburgh are making such a hash of the same thing in the 21st Century.
