Relax
Can't remember the last time I had a glass of wine! Shouldn't really but still. It's nice to have the chance to relax once in a while. I am discovering though that wine and poorliness (it's lingering) isn't the best combination. I can feel my brain shutting down. And I have been blipless and panicking so this is what you're getting! Sorry it's not a Ben blip...
It feels like Saturday. It's felt like Saturday all day. Keep having to remind myself that it's Friday, and there's Saturday still to come. Grandad is coming tomorrow. Ben is quite excited about that ;) Apparently this morning while I was having a lie-in (Steve has had today off, to do work on the bathroom) (except I've monopolised him with lots of other stuff) (but the floor is finished!) Ben said he didn't want to go to see Grandma (we're going on Sunday), he wanted to stay here with Daddy and Grandad :) Sorry Ben. Not this time lovey!
Took our time but we managed to get ourselves in gear and go supermarket shopping this morning, and rewarded ourselves (as we do) with a stop in the cafe afterwards and a slab of chocolate fudge cake. Ben played close to the table and we enjoyed our cake and smoothie, and got home without ANY stress. It's been a while!
Lunch was cheese and milk. A proper northern peasant food. Slices of Cheshire cheese on an ovenproof plate, covered in full fat milk, stuck under the grill until the top of the cheese is bubbling and turning brown. Eaten with thick white buttered bread. Mmmmm. Was just what I needed!!
And Ede came round to play in the afternoon :) We found a frog while Steve was cutting the grass outside, the boys were fascinated! Ben insisted that the frog had to be put over there (in the border) so it was safe :) The boys played happily together while Chris and I caught up. It feels like it's been such a long time since we had chance to just sit and chat - it probably has been a few weeks, which is quite long enough.
And now, now we've had dinner- Ben amazed me by declaring it yummy. It was only cheap bolognese (basics pasta, basics sauce, basics parmesan, not quite basics minced beef) perked up with marmite and tomato puree. I honestly didn't expect him to eat any of the meat but he did, and he kept showing Steve as proof!!
And we've cleared up, the garden is put away, the toys are tidied. Ben announced, as he was racing around the ground floor, getting slower and slower with each lap on his bike, that he was a big boy and big boys didn't need sleep. Well, that big boy was so tired that he screamed when daddy tried to get his pyjamas onto him, would only let mummy get him ready for bed, and was snoring 20 minutes later. We snuggled on the sofa to get him off to sleep (my back and belly are making snuggling in his little cotbed rather uncomfortable these days) and when I put him into bed he looked at me and said "mummy cuddle minute" so I did and it only took that minute for him to be fast asleep.
I wish I could remember all the little snippets of conversations we've had with him today. The whole purpose of Blipfoto for me is to record these little snippets of life, and it upsets me when I get to the end of a day and am left only with the emotion that I felt that accompanied a memory. If I can't remember these little things at the end of a day, I don't stand a chance a month / year / whatever later....
We have real conversations with him now. He talks about what he's done, what he's going to do. He describes things. His imagination is incredible. There were spaceships on TV this morning and he said he wanted to go in a spaceship and go whoosh! up high :) So I said we were going to go in mummy's red spaceship to the shop. You could see him process this information, that mummy's red car was actually a spaceship. You could see him forming the fantasy in his mind. When we got into the car he told me we had to wait for the monster, and when monster was in the car we could go. He chatted to monster all the way to the shop, telling it we were going whoosh! up in the sky and could see all the houses from up high in the sky.
He brought a dinosaur down for Steve, and told him it was a phone, and he had the other phone ( a green pentagonal wooden block) and was going back upstairs so he could phone daddy! The dino-phone helped his police car to talk to his green monster truck via the green pentagonal block as well this morning...
Gotta love that boy.
Can't believe in a month he'll be three.
