Levee

Today I went with a coworker to the Wilkes Barre Plant. I work for a Chemical Manufacturing Company and toured the plant in Wilkes Barre, very neat, totally amazing the things they do. On our way home we stopped in the town of Wilkes Barre. We were amazed by their Levee system which is shown in this picture. The Levee was tested by the recent storm from Hurricane Irene. Although the town was still flooded it saved what could have been a really horrible flood. The Levee's held but were stressed. The Susquehanna River crested at 42.66 feet. This crest beats the record flood stage of 40.9 feet set by Agnes in 1972, making it the highest crest in the city's history.

More pics of Wilkes Barre and an amazing shot of how high the river got when it crested.
