Day 9 - Bishop to Death Valley
Cosmic bowling was a success last night in Bishop, crashing the local alley to have three games, all of which I won. J is a master on the Wii but rubbish in real life... We were almost last to leave the motel this morning, driving south into ever more desert scenery as we headed for Death Valley National Park. Drove past Mount Whitney - the highest place in the continental USA, and not long after were at the lowest place!
Arrived at Furnace Creek Ranch and found our compact but cute cabin - thankfully the aircon was fierce as it was pushing 45c outside - too hot to do anything. We had a quick snack in the bar before resting for a few hours, then headed out early evening to see the highlights as the sun faded - Badwater, the Devils Golf Course, Artists Drive and Zabriskie Point. What a bizarre but stunning place it is. Sunset was beautiful and the best we've had on the trip.
Got back to the cabin and had a welcome shower, then had a (surprisingly) good meal in the 'Wrangler Steakhouse' on site, with a bottle of Californian red as a big treat on our last night of the road trip.
