Fairfield Days

Can you tell what it is yet?

Day 2 of our induction week at college sees us being introduced to Garden Design. Not being one blessed with the ability to draw, the day began in horror. Fortunately I took what Rob Bell said at GB11 to heart and by the end of the day learnt to laugh at myslef.

After instructions and exercises on lines, negative space and tones in the morning after lunch we went for a walk round the (now sunny) gardens and looked at the garden designs, (45 and 90 degrees, formal, informal, modern etc) and then were given the task of drawing a group of plants together from one of the gardens.

Back in the classroom we were informed that the whole point of doing these excerises was that every week we would be doing plant identification (200 over the year) and given 10 to draw. By drawing them we look more closely at the plant than by looking at a photo.

Our last task of the day was to draw a plant that was given to us in a jam jar. So here is a photo of the said drawing, just to reverse the process as it were. I think I may be relying on photographs..... (and don't ask me to name it because I've no idea).
