Agave-Sisal
I believe this are Sisal or Agave plants. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sisal)
I spotted these growing on an abandoned dump. They don't not look as "alien" in photographs as they are in this situation. They give the impression they are the remnants of some forgotten tribe sending their tallest warriors to ban any form of photography in case they get corrupted by civilisation.
I think they may be quite a challenge to photograph well as both the colour and the conversion to black and white don't quite get it. They have this lovely soapy greenish grey colour and the towering stems vary (in this case) from dull grey-black to vibrant orange. I must go there again and photograph these giants. The tallest must be about 6 -7 metres
