O Lago no Rio de Janeiro

The Cariocas just call it 'o lago' but it's real name is the Rodrigo de Freitas Lake. It's in Ipanema, just a 15 min walk back from the beach and the flats around the lake, especially those with lake views, are worth a fortune The buildings are a mix of traditional elegant and very tasteful modern. It's a popular place to stroll or bke around and is 7kms round the diameter. At Christmas they erect a huge, spectacular, twinkly Christmas tree in the middle, which easily competes with the one in Sao Paulo in Ibirapuera Park - sorry fotodiaro if you pop in to my journal today! If you look carefully, very carefully, you can just spot Cristo in the distance - a side view. Being by the lake today really made me want to come back with my big camera as I sometimes get frustrated with just my iphone, but security is always a consideration. That, and then having to carry it around with me for the rest of the day. I came to Ipanema today to make a very much needed appointment at the hairdressers. As Bb will testify, I'm a trifle fussy when it comes to hairdressers and when I was here in April after my Belfast stint I had an excellent cut by the lovely Luis. It lasted for a while and as I don't spend anything on make up (face moisturer doesn't count Bb), then I feel I can justify the cost....gulp! So, Thursday at 3pm I'll give myself over to Luis' capable hands!
