A new day dawns....

Burasi Turkiye.

That means, this is Turkey. You hear Turkish people say it a lot. For example, for the first 2 days of school Zeki hasn't had a teacher, therefore hasn't had school. The response to that has been "well, this is Turkey!". After nearly four years here I'm no longer quite so suprised when situations such as this occur. The kids get 1.5 hours lunch break here, but there are no official arrangements made for the lunch hour. So the mums all have to come to school to deal with their children. When I suggested packed lunch, one mum said "if I send one, he eats it at 10 am then has nothing left for lunch" to which I replied, "why doesn't the teacher keep the lunch bags in a box then hand them out at lunchtime?".
"yes, that could work!" she said. It's not rocket science is it? But as I said before, this is Turkey!
We are lucky because the school is very close to my husband's mother's house and she is a good cook. Only problem is, she is also very fickle so could lose interest in cooking for her grandchildren very quickly!

My blip today is of the Osman style people the children in my class were making today.
