...as I know you are all botanists or work in gardens. It's also for anyone else who knows stuff about looking after trees!

This is Grace's tree. It was a present to her from Hubby's boss. I love the fact Grace has her own tree and obviously we are very keen to take care of it the best we can. It has happily sat in its pot outside the front door since last Summer, but is looking a bit potbound now. However, we need to know a little bit about it and trees in general before we plant it out! The Internet is a minefield of information, so I'd rather to ask about it on blip, a font of all knowledge :)

Here are our questions:

a) We know it is an acer, but can anyone recognise the particular type?
b) How tall is it likely to grow and how much space will it need?
c) When is the best time of year to plant it out?
d) Will it need any special care e.g. particular fertiliser/compost?
e) Will we need to put a little protective fence around or is it probably high enough now (It stands at about 4 foot)?

If there is anything else we need to consider, please do tell!
