Trout Fishing In America

Kathy and I enjoyed outstanding day in our kayaks on Hosmer Lake in the Oregon Cascade Mountains. We explored an arm of the lake we'd never paddled before. The day was a bit moody with Mt. Bachelor, Broken Top and South Sister all making their own clouds around us. The air was cool and crisp as if in full autumn. The few paddlers with whom we shared the lake were very pleasant and happy to exchange small talk with us. Very likely this will be our last outing on Hosmer Lake this year as winter comes early to these high lakes. It was a fine treat to say the least.

One of the highlights of the day was observing a fisherman connecting with a large rainbow trout just as we paddled up to him. Fortunately, as he fought the fish, I had time to prepare my little camera. I captured a sequence of three images show his masterful playing of the fish while reaching for his net (the trout's head is visible in front of his boat) then, net ready, he brought the fish in close, and finally he lifted the fish from the water. Quite the vicarious thrill for Kathy and I. Pretty cool to say the least.

I don't as yet know how to blip a collage of images so I offer the image of the fish about to enter the net.

We finished the day with a fine meal at our town's new gourmet Mexican restaurant. Such a fine day for us to enjoy.
