Let me upstairs!
Yesterday. somebody was sick on the upstairs carpet. We don't know who it was, so Jess & Molly have both been told to sleep downstairs tonight. The gate at the foot of the stairs is closed.
I am awakened at about 1.30 am by a light scratching on the gate. At first, it can be ignored; but eventually Molly (it has to be her) starts wailing, and the scratching gets more frantic. So I went down hoping that all she wanted was to be let outside for a few minutes, then back to bed.
Nothing doing! As you can see in the left photo, Molly, for all the fuss she has been creating, is still drowsy. I sat for a while in the kitchen, hoping for her to fall asleep again - but she sat beside the gate, still eyes-half-shut, waiting for me to go back upstairs.
I went back into the kitchen and sat down to do a sudoku. I was determined to outsit her! After about an hour, sudoku completed and some TV watched, Molly went back to her bed and seemed to be sleeping. I took the opportunity to slip upstairs, only to find that she had been shamming. No sooner had I opened the gate than she was up like a rocket.
First thing she did, of course, was leap onto our bed and lick Mrs jml awake. At least she had the decency to jump down again when I made it upstairs. (Molly jumped, that is, not Mrs jml!!)
And where was Jess all this time? Fast asleep! At some stage during the night she found that the gate was open and came up. Morning found Jess on the floor of our bedroom and Molly guarding the stairhead. But at least nobody was sick today.
