I Love A Parade!

It couldn't have been better weather for me to have taken a real Saturday off. How easy it would have been to use the day for cleaning or working in the yard either at home or at the Cottage, but we had a goal, which was to see the final event for the Teen Idol competition as there is a young lady who is very dear to us who made the finals. A whole day we made, first parking in front of our church to avoid the parade route traffic, then planning to walk over to see the parade for the Bay Area Fun Festival, an annual event. Just thinking about going brings back memories of playing my flute in the marching band for Marshfield High School, goodness over 30 years ago! Yikes!!

Yet, it didn't feel like much time had passed at all. The real bonus of having the new Fire Dept. across the street from the church, was having the opportunity to take pictures of the Grand Marshall preparing to leave the station in this vintage buggy (usually on display in the fire hall). A responsible Grand Marshall always has someone follow the buggy with a wheelbarrow and another person with a shovel. Good for him!

I added a precious little portrait of a baby, that was right in front of us while we watched the parade, to my blipfolio portraits. She was more interested in my shiny red camera most of the time than the other commotion. Don't you think the manufacturers could place these "warning" labels on baby seats in a better location for taking pictures? They just weren't thinking!

Over all, an entertaining and lovely Fall day. There were many talented young people performing in the Teen Idol competition. It has always been an event that bothers me a bit. I guess the concept of kids trying to become idols in America, is an irritation under my skin. Especially when I see how we treat those we admire. It's rough to be in the center of attention and adored by all one moment, then find a raunchy article talking up your weaknesses the next. On the local level, kids work so hard to be amazing, when all they need to do is look in the mirror...they are amazing. Lovely and amazing. All of them.
