A spot of gardening

My son usually walks home from school but today I decided I would surprise him and pick him up from school (I don't often pick him up). I sat in the car for 15 minutes but there was no sign of him. I concluded that he must've got a lift home with his friend's mother. When I got home, he wasn't here. He eventfully arrived home. He'd caught the bus and had walked out of school through the other gate which is why I missed him.
Whilst I was cooking dinner, daughter #2 decided that she would do some gardening.
It was a beautiful evening and I suggested that we should all go for a walk to the park after dinner. No one wanted to go!
At bedtime, daughter #1 came downstairs to say that her sister was crying. Hubby and I went up to see what was wrong. She was crying because there's a girl in her class who keeps hitting her. I said that I would speak to the teacher tomorrow but she begged me not to say anything. She said that if I mentioned it to the teacher it would make things worse. Grrrrr
