All's well that bend's well

Soon after posting Fallen yesterday we lost a large stem of roses to the gusts. I quickly popped them into a vase along with the Fallen Sunflower, not expecting much but hoping for the best.

This morning, the flowers in the vase (including the sunflower) were tired but doing OK.

The sunflowers outside somehow survived the night - they're all bent at an angle and looking decidedly battered, but I've retied them up loosely to a cane and I think we might get a couple more weeks from them.

When I think back to when I planted them from seed, it's amazing, truly amazing to see what results from that little hard seed. How does it know what to grow into?
