Elephant Head
Probably the most distinct mountain in the Santa Rita Mountain range is Elephant Head.
Many people can see the face of an elephant carved out in the rocks. Sometimes it's more clear to me than at other times.
I've blipped Elephant Head before, but at a slightly different angle and in better weather. I liked the shadows and light in this one.
It is said that the Spanish Missionaries that came through from Mexico used Elephant head as a landmark to know where they were and that they were headed along the correct trail.
We've had a run of a few lousy days of weather. But that's actually good for us. Tucson has officially recorded over two inches of rain at the airport, which is half of what is expected in an average monsoon We've been affected as much by high winds as by rain. The rain is good news and I hope we get more. Forty percent chance for the next couple of days (highs only around 93F-nice!) A lousy day here is a really good day!
