Turmeric!

Our turmeric has sprouted! My friend Marie-Claire brought back some fresh turmeric from Guadeloupe, and rather than use it all in cooking, we put some rhizomes in a pot in May to see if they would sprout. Nothing happened, and after the wettest, coldest summer I can remember, we gave it up for lost.

But look! You'll see some of the rhizome peeking out of the soil at the bottom of the picture.

It will overwinter indoors and hopefully I'll be able to use it in curries next year.
