Hanging baskets to last?

I've experiemented with putting miniature bulbs in these baskets but they don't seem to survive more than one season so this time I've put perrenial succulents in and and hoping for more success this year. I may wrap them in fleece over winter to help protect them. I like the look of the baskets so far though. My plan is to get them so that I don't have to keep replanting every year, plus when bits break off I can replant them in my garden in the bald patches as they occur....
