No, not William, but his father John who was steward to Lord Lowther. They lived in a grand house in Cockermouth until John died and the family was broken up.
The Wordworth House is a National Trust property which we thought we might as well visit in the rain. unfortuately we had forgotten that it was open for Heritage Open Day so was much busier than usual.
