Against the Wind
The 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks has come around incredibly quickly. I remember that day so clearly.
I was working in a frantically busy doctor's surgery at the time and was looking forward to going home mid afternoon having started at 0750hrs. The manager was a bit of a tosser at the the best of times (IMO) so when he came in to where we were working and announced that a plane had hit the World Trade Centre but had no further details, I thought, "you really are an arse." He actually said to me once in work that women needed a good slap now and again to keep them in their place so I wasn't about to take his word for it about something like this.
It came to to my finish time and I quickly grabbed my things and the newspaper I'd bought first thing and drove home. As I sat down, the second tower had already come under attack and scenes of devastation and chaos were flooding every channel on television.
Needless to say I threw away the newspaper. I didn't see the point in reading it when the the world had changed forever in just a few hours.
