First Day of School - Jack

Today was Jack's first day of school as a BIG 4th grader!

Last night I could see the anxiety starting to set in as he fussed about the outfit that I picked out for him. This is what he tends to do when his anxiety is high just before a sports game etc so I wasn't too surprised. He will start complaining about his shin guards, uniform, shoes etc. Last night he was complaining about the shorts I picked out for him to wear today. We had a deal though. If I bought him the purple plaid DC shoes he wanted then I got to pick out his outfit the first day of school. I made him stick to our agreement!

He woke up in a good mood although sluggish but we got to school plenty early to get settled in. Once in the classroom I could tell he was feeling anxious but he handled it well, especially when I left. I hope he is having a good day and has relaxed some. He is in a wonderful class this year. I could not have hand picked a better teacher or group of students. He was placed in the 4/5 split class so there are just 10 4th graders in it while the rest are 5th graders.

I'm also relieved and thrilled to say that our first PTA sponsored event this morning which was Coffee Connection, went great and we had a really nice turnout of parents. The first of MANY more PTA events to come this year. It's going to be a busy year for me.

Carter has his first day of school tomorrow. He can't wait!

UPDATE:
Poor Jack! I picked him up this afternoon and he didn't look well. We got in the car where he started to cry and said he had felt sick all day and had just thrown up in the hallway inside his backpack while waiting to be released. He's so upset over getting sick over all his paperwork and folders and embarassed too. I feel so bad for him. I hope he feels better soon. It was so hot today and the classrooms really have no air condititioning so I'm wondering if heat was an issue. If it were nerves I would have thought he would have thrown up in the morning. :(
