David Walliams vs. The Thames
Amazing and inspiring, and a bit nuts!!!
David Walliams passed Clifton Hampden Bridge this lunchtime, after a quick break at the Barley Mow Pub. So me and Hannah went to see him on the way back from school.
He is behind schedule because he's poorly and yet, he keeps jumping back in and waving as he swims to all those who have come to cheer. The whole Clifton Hampden School was on the river bank and encouraging him.
I was swimming in the lake for a bit less than an hour this morning, 2.5 km and by the end, I could not feel my feet or finger tips. It is getting cold. And the wind is blowing...it might not look like much from above, but at water level it is choppy and it's easy to swallow a mouthful of water unless you change your swimming style. So really, even if he did not make the 140 miles, or not in 8 days, the guy is a hero for starting it in the first place and raising lots of money.
Now, I'm not sure what the caption on this picture should be : "It's that way I think...." or "I'm watching you and if you don't swim properly, I'll be very cross!"
Good luck to him!
