You've Never Had It So Good!
The day dawned grey & wet. An excellent day for armchair motorcycling!
It's always interesting (for me, at least!) to look through old magazines & marvel at how cheap bikes were. A one year old Triumph Bonneville, yours for £280!
But then I read in a current bike mag that the average wage in 1959 was about £12 a week. So that bike was around 23 weeks wages.
Apparently, an average wage is now about £350 a week. A brand new Bonnie is about £7000, about 20 weeks wages. So prices have actually come down.
Hooray!
(I haven't bothered checking the maths, and I'm aware that the Bonnie is no longer Triumph's "top of the range" bike, but let's just enjoy the moment, eh?)
