The Beautiful Game

They call it The Beautiful Game althoughI have seen very few matches in recent years which could have been called truly beautiful. Far too many overpaid prima donnas poncing about the place and throwing themselves on the floor looking for frees and penalties, nowadays.

However the really beautiful thing about soccer is that all you really need is a ball and you have a match. These teams of Dads and Lads shot in action on the seafront in Bray this afternoon had the added luxury of marking the goals with three pullovers and a shoe. I couldn't figure out where the shoe came from as there were no one legged players involved and all players seemed to be shod with the regulation two shoes each.

It was not looking too good for the Dad's. The silky skills were there (of course) but the fleetfooted pace of earlier years appeared to have deserted them!!
