Keeping Watch!
A quiet wander down at the estuary I came across this Little Shag, sitting in the sunshine drying his wings and keeping a very watchful eye on me!!
The Little Shags occupy small inland lakes, coastal bays, sheltered inlets, estuaries, farm streams, dams and wetland areas. They feed on fish, eels, crustaceans, aquatic insects, crayfish and frogs. When crayfish are caught, the birds shake them until their claws dropp off. The Little Shags are common and protected, they are endemic to New Zealand.
The Maori name: Kawau-paka.
Lots of people out and about today, families with young children, teenagers, older people walking dogs, all enjoying the sun today.
Enjoy your weekend :)
