God & Mammon

Originally, All Hallows Church was sited on Lombard Street, in the City of London. It was one of 51 churches re-built, to Christopher Wren's designs, after the the Great Fire of 1666.
As the residential population of the City gave way to business concerns, the need for so many churches declined, & All Hallows was demolished in 1937. The site then became home to offices for Barclays Bank.

However, the story didn't end there. The shrinkage in the numbers of City dwellers coincided with a boom in the suburban population. So All Hallows' bell tower was re-erected, complete with the original bells, in Twickenham, & a new church built to house interior fittings from Lombard Street.
(I'd actually hoped to photograph some of those fittings, but sadly the church was locked up!)
