And now for something completely different...

Well after all my recent star shots I thought it was time to try something different. Sitting in from of the computer at 10 oclock wondering what I can photograph to blip today I see a little zip bag that we put some shells in when were at the Jersey Shore last month. I have now been corrected on that, those shells were from the Bahamas last year.

I pictured a shot of somebody holding out a hand full of shells, a shot where the hands textures and shadows were as much a part of the image as the textures and surfaces of the shells. It would have to be B&W as I find the mind concentrates much more of textures and shadows without the distraction of color.

So swivel around a desk lamp to provide the light from behind and off to the side to create the shadows pointing towards the camera so they are more interesting, contort the arm and wrist and click a few shots. Have you ever tried to take a photo of your own hand pointing towards you? Its not the most comfortable of positions, it can be made trickier when your hand is full of little shells. Actually smelly little shells to be precise, I am getting the idea at least one of the shells may well have been inhabited when it was zip locked away...

Then some giggery pokery in Lightroom to darken away the background and B&W the shot, some work on sharpness and tones.

Not a normal shot for me at all... but I like it.

See how old my hands are starting to look by viewing it large.
