Dusk in Yosemite

As we drove across Yosemite National Park we could see smoke from fires to the west and north. The beauty of this landscape is breath taking nevertheless. Once we crossed the pass, the smoke was behind us. All the campgrounds were full and we despaired of finding a place to stay and cook the swordfish we bought in Point Reyes Station for dinner. Once we traversed Tioga Pass and left the park we descended about 2000 feet. In the valley is Lee Vining Campground. It was mostly empty. The lower elevation meant a much warmer night than the high elevation crowded camp sites in Yosemite. It was peaceful beside a rushing stream. We quickly set up camp and grilled our diner as the light faded. There were lockers to keep food safe from bears. We didn't see any of the critters though. The following morning the fires caused the park to close all entrances and evacuate the visitors.
