Gorse-covered slopes

Thursday
Today was Laura's choir's lunchtime concert in St. Giles Cathedral. So we had a leisurely morning, enjoying our excellent breakfast at the hotel and getting to the cathedral around 11am. Jen went off for a short walk on her own, while I took a few photos in the cathedral, then joined Roger and his parents for coffee in the cathedral cafe. It was a wonderful setting for the concert - visually, and acoustically. Laura was free for the afternoon so spent it with us. We had lunch in the cathedral cafe then went to Holyrood Palace. One problem we realized we had was that we couldnt legally take 6 people in the car, so Jen, Laura and I walked, while Roger drove his parents over. This gave us the chance to have a closer look at the Scottish Parliament building on the way. We used the audio guides at the Palace, so had an interesting and informative tour, and enjoyed a walk in the sunshine around the grounds. Afterwards, we left Rogers parents sitting in the car, while we had  a walk up Arthurs seat. We didnt make it all the way up, as we were short on time, but the weather was beautiful and the views spectacular, especially with the gorse-covered slopes. The reason we were short on time was we had to have an early dinner in order to get Laura back to St.Giles for about 7.30 as she was meeting up with some friends and going on one of the ghost tours. While we were waiting with Laura for her friends to turn up, we were treated to a gorgeous rainbow over the Royal Mile.
