Nature day after day

Starling

Took many bird photos this morning but this one was one of the best for sharpness and character. Many House Sparrows in our garden (there must be about 50+) including this female and this male. Our young female Blackbird in moult with some neck feathers missing also made an appearance and here's another Starling on the bird table.

I have some very bad photos of a Robin, too. He was in the lilac bush chacking away at another Robin which was in the trees at the bottom of the garden and he wasn't very happy! None of them came down for any mealworms but I guess they were far too busy proclaiming territories. Here he is! Will try and get a better photo for you all ;)

When I was sitting on the seat the female Sparrowhawk came whooshing over my head, Dad's pigeons went shooting off, one being chased by the hawk into our neighbours' garden. I peeped over the fence and saw that she hadn't got the pigeon but was standing on the washing line pole. Female Sparrowhawk. I wish she had just been a little closer to me so I could have got her in focus better. Next time maybe ;)

P.S. We had to get our 14-year old black labrador Fraoch put to sleep on Monday. She was the best dog ever and we miss her so much. RIP Fraoch xxxxx
