A random act of kindness

This afternoon, my 85 year old mother-in-law told us about something that happened to her at her local Sainsbury's store.

She was at the checkout paying for her few groceries (around £4 worth) when the lady next to her in the queue told the assistant that she would pay for my MIL's goods. MIL was taken aback and refused, but the lady insisted and handed the assistant a £20 note.

The assistant gave the change back, but the lady pressed it into my MIL's hand, gave her a kiss and told her to treat herself. My MIL was confused and embarrassed to be singled out, so she thanked the lady and made as hasty an exit as an 85 year old could.

It took 3 weeks before MIL could bring herself to tell us about what happened.
