Salt Lake City, Lancashire??!

I'm not religious myself but I do find religion in its many and varied forms rather fascinating in all sorts of ways. And here's an interesting fact that I found out recently. The Mormons have been in Lancashire longer than they've been in Utah! Well, I thought it was interesting anyway...

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, better known as the Mormons, was founded in 1830 in New York State by Joseph Smith, Jr. and, in a sort of 'reverse Pilgrim Fathers' manoeuvre, a group sailed to Britain in 1837 landing at Liverpool and setting up a community in nearby Preston a full decade before they, rather more famously, began to establish themselves in Utah. The links with the area continue to this day and this temple and missionary training centre in Chorley, just outside Preston, is the largest Mormon temple in Europe.
