The morning after

Woke up with these two little rascals in my bed. I say woke: I'm not sure how much sleep I can get with Reu's snoring and Callum's MIA episodes when I find him uncovered at the end of the bed. It seemed an easier option at the time late last night when we arrived home from the party (I'm so grateful for the invitation to shoot whilst Mama Cat's friends entertained my boys).

Huge and enjoyable day yesterday. 13hrs shooting at a church then waterside wedding, then gorgeous Tara's 4th backyard birthday party backed by national forest wilderness. They live in the most magical place. I'd be living there too if MamaKat hadn't told me she recently found a rattlesnake on her terrace, a tarantula crawling up her footpath and black widow spiders. She called 911.

Musing on the wedding: MamaKat's home gave me the opportunity to explore the ideas I'd been having on the day for the wedding but was unable to execute due to and the traditional approach of the day and cultural differences. So by the time I arrived at the party, my mind was just exploding in creative heaven waiting for that magical, bewitching hour to arrive and gently glide behind the mountains beyond. Shooting the party was a great creative release.

Yet it was their day to be exactly as they wanted it to be. I really tried to gently persuade them that bride and groom portraits would be the ones they would most treasure but it appeared to be outside their comfort zone. Isn't good diplomacy one of the key secrets to wedding photography too? But I'm grateful for the opportunity though to work with renowned GMA videographer with his two huge TV-grade video cameras whom I partnered and who thankfully left all the stills to me.

Note to self: turn off continuous shooting mode occasionally. It'll save you the bother of a 4000 image workflow. I'm also going to ensure I have a 2nd shooter in the future. There are just too many variables to accomodate, gear to manage and locations to be at. The drive then dash shoot is quite unbecoming in 90F heat.

What shall we do today boys? Something very easy...
