Day Two - To Estany Sant Maurici

Espot stands at the edge of one of the national Parks of the Pyrenees - the Parc National d'Aiguestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici - the tortuous rivers and lakes of Saint Maurice. Or more simply the 'Encantados' or 'Enchanted Mountains'. Which is about right really. Such a very small area, really, yet so many secluded valleys, cirques, and thousands of lakes hidden away in high and surprisingly difficult terrain among and divided by towering granite peaks. Each little pocket with it's own very distinct character. Lottie Peter and Chris approach the Estany Sant Maurici from Espot - and our first intimate view of these mountains. And one thing was for sure already - it was going to be hot! Surprising for a bunch of british hillwalkers...
