Waterfoot Sunrise

Low Tide at Waterfoot

This was the day to try out the new walking boots in the local hills, before attempting anything more serious. We are fortunate that we can walk from the house and decided to go up Meall Donn which at 1138 feet provided marvelous views of the whole of Carradale and beyond to Arran. Unfortunately the light wasn't great so landscape blips tuned out a bit grey.
Kept an eye out for the Golden Eagles that are in the area but didn't see them. I did however almost stand on a female Grouse and her 7 or 8 young, which flew off making much noise. I later learned that the number of grouse on Kintyre hills is closely monitored as they are prey for the Eagles.
After reaching the summit we descended to Glen Head at Torrisdale before joining part of the Kintyre Way that follows the coast to Waterfoot and home. On arriving at Waterfoot the late afternoon sun was shining and lit up the river and smalls boats grounded by the low tide. Despite having taken many blips on the walk, this was my favourite - possibly influenced by the fact we were almost home!
A point of interest - the smoke in the background is from 'Rhoddies' that are being cleared from areas of woodland to encourage Scots Pine and other native trees to grow.
