Calm Before Irene
Today was the sticky but calm day before the onset of Hurricane Irene. The storm has been haunting all week's news, causing people all along the US east coast to be panicked. Hopefully, it will continue to downgrade and not be as daunting as the media would like us to believe. It's already down to a cat 2 with North Carolina in the eye then due to hit Cape May about 2 pm tomorrow and then Delaware. Those areas have been under mandatory evacuations since yesterday, but we are are in the flood warning and high wind advisory zone. That should be manageable, though wide-spread, prolonged power outages are possible. As I told my daughter, who was getting scared listening to all the reports, I was born in the height of one of the worst hurricanes to ever hit our area. We will be safe.
Took this shot from a little farm I pass frequently. These two ponies are always out nibbling the grass and teasing for a picture. Wish it were a clearer view and closer, but I did the best I could in the few seconds I had before the next car urged me on. I forever see photo-worthy sights on my drives, but can't get more than a quick grab here and there on these back country roads that are well-traveled. No time to really line up, zoom in, adjust camera settings, etc. It's more of a quick snap only situation.
