Aquamarine/Nanna K's Day

Whales!

Out on our friends' sailboat today we had The best EVER sighting of killer whales this afternoon. We were so excited! Have much better photos with my slr which I will replace this iPhone pix when I get back to my computer! I think we saw 30 whales in maybe 5 pods - the sounds of them blowing had us looking every direction! An outstanding day!!! Even some very nice downwind sailing.... Warm and sunny,

Edit: OK I'm replacing the iphone photo with a double image - against my "personal rules" but I just couldn't decide and didn't want to make a collage. The pods we saw has 5-6 whales in them - I think Mom, Dad and a few youngsters here, one 'blowing" The sound is unforgettable. We think probably some were local and some were transient (Locals eat salmon/fish. Transients eat seals.) One of several whale watching boats nearby - all pretty respectful of the distance one is supposed to keep. The other pix is a different whale in a different direction - I liked it as you can see Mt. Baker (in WA state) peeking thru the clouds and haze. Have lots of pictures of fins - the identifying part. These guys were all traveling north, no breaching did we see in 30 minutes of watching. A wonderful event for us!
