Little shag resting in the afternoon light.
Little (pied) Shag
Maaori name: Kawaupaka
Latin name: Phalacrocorax melanoleucos
A big branch fell in the river after the tree had to be felled after the earthquake, and it is being used as a perch by this little shag.
It sits there most afternoons, depending on the tide, it is disturbed by dogs, but otherwise seems to do ok.
Busy day today, working, so was glad to see it there today - no action shot, but you can't always be lucky!
