Still water in the heart of Edinburgh

At this point, just above the "city village" of Dean, the Water of Leith is ponded by a weir. Still as the water seems, it accelerates towards the bottom left of the photograph, stretches suddenly over the lip of the weir and then roars in turmoil ten feet down into a plunge pool. There were eleven mills in Dean so it must have been an important industrial complex. I met a couple on the path, the wife of whom is an artist, and accompanied them as far as the bridge and steps to Dean Gallery.
