Boy do I have a story for you, blippers.
This morning I got up with the intention of taking a plane to Denver (which did eventually happen) for a 4 day orientation with Americorps VISTA, which is the government organization sponsoring the new job I am doing.
My flight was scheduled to depart at 12:40p. It was delayed due to mechanical reasons. Initially they thought it was fixable and brought out a part to repair the plane. Then an hour and a half later, they changed their minds. We had to move terminals to get on a new plane fresh from the hangar.
So, in walking between the terminals, I thought, hey, why not take some photos? I took about 15 before I got to Terminal A. At which point I photographed a TSA officer standing by a postcard rack.
About 3 to 5 seconds later, he was asking what I was doing. I told him that I was an amateur photographer, and that I was taking photographs. He told me that was illegal. Also started lecturing me on airport safety.
Meanwhile, I'm going "WTF?" - and before long he's asking to see the photos. I say no. He says he'll detain me for additional screening. I show them to him. He requests that I delete them. I say no. He repeats earlier threat. I delete them, thinking "what the fuck just happened?"
I was pretty sure then, and am positive now, that he was totally in the wrong. I'm not angry about it, just puzzled. I don't understand what everyone is so pissed off about these days.
Well, my plane to Denver eventually left at 3:15p and then the rest of the evening was a whirlwind as I was whisked to a very nice hotel and a catered dinner and several hundred people from all over the country entering this program.
Then a late night run at high altitude (yay!) and to bed.
See Brian in my backblip yesterday.
