Vernicos Alexia

This is the wreck of one of three tugs which ran aground in October 1981.

The three tugs were originally Liverpool tugs but had been sold to Greece.

The Vernicos Alexia was towing the other two (Vernicos Georgios and Vernicos Barbara IV).

The Alexia suffered engine problems then fouled the tow-line. All three then were driven onto the shore when the anchors did not hold.

The wrecks lie at the foot of the cliffs just east of Porth y Rhaw near Solva in Pembroke.

The scramble down the cliffs is not for the faint hearted!

At the foot of the scramble lie the Georgios and Barbara IV, the Alexia is accessed by a squeeze through a narrow slot in the cliffs and into the next bay.

I am assuming the single wreck is the Alexia and the two wrecks in the first bay are the other two. This would make sense if the Alexia was towing the other two.
