Brodsworth Hall

We met up with my mum and dad this morning for coffee and cake.
Brodsworth Hall is a convenient location for them as it only takes a little over fifteen minutes to drive there (slightly longer for us at around 25 mins). It's sometime since I was last there but it seems to have become a regular Saturday morning outing for them.

The hall is a Victorian mansion now in the care of English Heritage who have done a wonderful job of restoring the house and gardens, though the selling point on the house is ... almost everything has been left exactly as it was when it was still a family home. Possessions that took more than 130 years to gather together, from the grandest piece of furniture to family mementoes and humble domestic items, are still in their original places.

Our journey home was past the out of town retail park at Corton Wood (a former coal mine) so we had time to check out whether B & Q had any end of season bargains on garden furniture (they do - so we'll probably return on Wednesday with our discount card). We'd like an inexpensive seat for the allotment, but also need to replace a rotting bench and table in our garden at home.

... and we returned from the supermarket with two Bramley Apple trees, a bargain ... so who could resist! I'll keep them in their pots until the autumn and then plant them out as cordons along one edge of our allotment plot.
