Stripy fly

Managed my usual walk today. Enjoyed a bit of calm and quiet.

No idea what this huge stripy fly is - proboscis looked fairly nasty - two-pronged and long. Luckily it seemed intent on sticking it into the flowers and not to me. It was seeing off any other flies that landed on the head of the flower.

Watched a pale tussock moth caterpillar cross the pavement - so hairy and yellow and fairly fast as it scooted around.

Sat in the garden with a Pimm's and my Kindle when I got home.
