Papa Stour
In idylic conditions we took the 45 minute crossing to Papa Stour today. For quite a low lying island - the high point is only 79 metres - Papa has some of the most exposed coastline in the country. Today though, the sea had barely a ripple and the temperature touched 20 degrees under a lovely blue sky. Sink holes, subterranean passages, geos, wicks, stacks and voes were all there for exploring. The entire coastline took us almost 8 hours to walk, but we still found time for a spot of fishing off the rocks, catching some pitlicks for our tea.
We both agreed that Papa Stour could be the most picturesque of all the islands we have visited over the years. If you get the chance to come here then seize the opportunity. I'm sure you wont regret it.
I've promised my very understanding - and weary - wife a rest day the moro!
My entry a year ago today shows an altogether more mountainous view.
