Drinking and Running Club

I was chasing the sunset on my bike when I intersected about fifty people running down the street in a combination of running and pirate clothes.
"What is this?" I asked.
"Hash," one answered.
"I never heard of that. Say more."
"We are a drinking club with a running problem," several answered in unison.
"We follow clues along the street to our next drinking establishment."
"We want beer!" another intoned.
"Join us!"
I promised to consider it, and we went out different ways.
