A Pilgrims Progress

Brunch.

What is brunch?
Two explanations given to me recently are as follows:
1- The meal between breakfast and lunch.
2- The meal you take if you miss breakfast, but eat before lunch.

But then what is lunch?
Two reasons given are as follows:
1-The meal between breakfast and dinner (for the sake of this argument dinner being the midday meal and not the dinner taken at tea-time - a whole other debate not for now!)
2- The meal taken at dinner time instead of dinner when dinner is taken at tea-time instead! (Confused yet?)

As i didn't have breakfast today then i assumed this meal (in the photo) was dinner. But apparently not. It was brunch! This was because it was 11:30am and it was too late to be called a breakfast and too early to be called a dinner and couldn't be called lunch because i hadn't had breakfast!

Confused now? I was!

It seems to me that the reason we are the most obese nation in Europe is because be have too many meals each with their own name and designated time to take them. For someone brought up on the bedrock of '3 square meals a day' all these 'extra' meals and terms is confusing to say the least.

For me this meal was dinner. I had missed breakfast and wouldn't eat again (snack not withstanding - don't get me started on snacks!) until tea-time.

Simple.
